First Electric “Gas” Station launched in Chicago

Carbonday and Coulomb Technologies have combine to produce the new ChargePoint System. The System houses a canopy lined with Solar Panels to produce 100% clean energy that is environmentally and grid friendly. The ChargePoint recently launched in Chicago as part of the city’s bid for the 2016 Olympics. The station is quite simple as Electric Vehicles are able to top off their batteries just by plugging in their vehicles in much the same way we go to gas stations to refill today.

With the Chevy Volt coming next year, a plug-in Prius in the pipeline, and the already available plug-in vehicles in the market, a solar powered electric fill station will soon be seen next to your local gas station. What is interesting is that the daily routines for the average person will not change much even with this new technology. A fill up will still require maintenance at home, refilling at a station, and going to the dealer for check-ups, all without the need of gas or harming the environment.

Its exciting to see the future coming without requiring drastic change by the average consumer but simply evolutionary change using what we already know. Over the next 5-10 years, we will see an entirely new automotive landscape with electricity ruling the land.
